Died Joseph Medicine, last warrior-chief of the Crow tribe

Joseph Medicine, the last warrior-chief of the Crow tribe, has died at 102 years old, in Billings in the reserve of Lodge Grass, Montana, where he had lived most of his life. Veteran of the Second World War, Medicine distinguished himself so much for the courage shown in fights to earn the title of “War Leader”.

After the War he devoted himself to the defense of native origins, becoming historian of the indigenous peoples, as well as a major supporter of the rights of American Natives. In 2009, President Barack Obama, at the White House awarded him the Medal of Freedom, the highest Civil honor bestowed by the US.
