Last November, the Islamic party AKP, founded by Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey, won the elections with an absolute majority. From that moment the dream of the Sultan has been to get his hands on the Constitution and create a new one, by changing the parliamentary system into a presidential system, where his figure succeeds to become as powerful as that of Putin or Obama.

The opposition is favorable of re-writing the document. The current indeed dates back to 1982 and was written during a period of military dictatorship. The only contrast comes from the position of President Erdogan who wants to create a presidential system so he can govern in total freedom, being able to equaling other presidents such as the president of the United States, France and Russia. According to the vision of the Sultan, the role he plays is formal and representative, instead turning towards a presidential system he could make more effective decisions.

To justify and underline his position, returning from a conference in Saudi Arabia, Erdogan gave an interview in which he compared his vision of the ideal presidential system to that built by the Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler. As reported by turkish media, the question of a possible new turkish political system, Erdogan replied that “there are examples all over the world. And there are also examples in the past, if you think to Hitler’s Germany, you can see it.”
