Rouhani distances himself from Renzi and the decision to cover the statues

This is an update article for the previous: Rouhani’s visit to Italy and those museum statues covered not to offend him

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani tries to cut short the discussion, but the decision to cover some ancient statues of nudes of the Capitoline Museums has already showed the world the embarrassing submission of Italy in the international diplomacy.

“There were no contacts in this regard,” was assured by Rouhani, unloading the entire responsibility of the scandalous decision to the Italian government. “I can only say that the Italians are very hospitable, they try to do everything to put at ease the guests, and I thank them anyway for this.”

The loutish Italy covers its own culture not to offend the Iranian president and his religion. A concern which had not been requested by Tehran. Indeed, it seems that the Ceremonial of the Iranian state has no guidelines at this regard. Rome is responsable for everything, and Renzi in this instance. Behind obscene white panels were hidden statues that are world arts heritage. An affront to the beauty of the Capitoline Museums and, above all, a slap to the Italian culture. The entrance of the Hall “Pietro da Cortona” was even closed by a panel to block it from sight.

And there’s more. As leaked to the BBC News, “Italy has also chosen not to serve wine in the official lunches, a gesture that France, where Rouhani went after Italy, has refused to take.” In France, for example, Le Figaro reminded to Renzi the saying “In Rome do as the Romans.” Overseas the Guardian too cared to tease our government: “Rome covers the statues of nudes to avoid the Iranian president to blush.” But beyond the easy and obvious ironies raised abroad, Matteo Renzi is over the center of a bitter controversy especially in Italy.

After bringing Rouhani on Colosseum sightseeing, the Minister for Cultural Heritage Dario Franceschini immediately cared to defend the prime minister. “Neither I nor Renzi – he said – were informed of the choice of covering the statues.” An excuse that is immediately dismantled from the Capitoline Superintendent of Cultural Heritage: “The measure has not been decided by us for sure, Palazzo Chigi organized each details of the visit.”
