World Record for alcohol consumption goes to Saudi Arabia

The alcohol consumers in Bangladesh drink an average of 9 liter of alcoholic beverage yearly. But the World Record for alcohol consumption apparently goes to… Saudi Arabia! The alcohol consumers of the 100% Muslim country drink an average of 33.9 liter of alcoholic beverage yearly.

The data was published recently by a W.H.O. research. The data (among other) impinges the Bangladesh official reports, which deny the very existence of alcoholic beverage consumption within the country’s population, labelling it only as a marginal issue on neglected social categories.

Between the SAARC countries, the primacy for alcoholic beverage consumption goes to Nepal (28.8 liter), closely followed by India (28.7 liter), and then Sri Lanka (20.1 liter) and Maldives (13.8 liter). Bangladesh is behind with “only” 9 liter in average.

In proportion, USA and EU alcoholic beverage consumption seem to be more restrained. The alcohol consumers of the USA drink an average of 13.5 liter of alcoholic beverage yearly. Similarly, UK and France record 13.8 liter and 12.9 liter respectively. Anyway the worst figure of increment on the consumption of alcoholic beverages is recorded in China: in 1978 it was 2.5 liter only, while it is 15.1 liter in this last report.
