Morocco, Burqa banned for security reasons

The Rabat authorities have asked the manufacturers and retailers of burqas to interrupt their activities. But there is no law that prohibits it.

Officially, the reasons are security. The government, in fact, has asked manufacturers and retailers of burqas to interrupt their activities. The decision was taken by the Ministry of the Interior in Rabat.

Officials of the Ministry went to the places where the full veil is produced, in Casablanca and in Taroudant, in the southeast of the country, to ask them to put an end to the production and that stocks be destroyed. It was even given an ultimatum of 48 hours to do so, after which the clothes will be seized.

”We took the decision to totally prevent the import, manufacture and sale of this garment in all cities and locations of the Kingdom”, said an Interior Ministry source. Official written documents were sent to the traders to communicate the new rules. It is recalled that often the full veil was used to mask the terrorists.

By the end of the year the Moroccan security forces arrested 70 people linked to Salafist extremism. In Morocco, however, there is no written law against wearing burqa, nor to sell it or manufacture it.

Cries scandal the European “civil society” (wonder what they care of the burqas in Morocco?), claiming that “the decision of the Ministry of Interior is to be considered illegal and invalid because it is not based on any written law” and “violates the rights of women to EXPRESS THEMSELVES and dress freely”.
