Police have arrested Maulana Abul Kashem who is believed to be the ‘spiritual leader’ of the Neo-JMB (Jamaatul Mujaheddin Bangladesh).
Additional Deputy-Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mohammad Yousuf Ali told bdnews24.com that “a unit of counter-terrorism police arrested him from Dhaka Thursday 2/3 night.”
He said that Kashem earlier worked as the Amir of one faction of the original JMB.
The official declined to give further details about Kashem, saying “they would hold a press conference later.”
An official of the counter-terrorism unit told bdnews24.com that after the arrest of JBM chief Maulana Saidur Rahman, Shaiok Abul Kashem became the spiritual leader of the neo-JMB. “JMB followers call him Bada Hujur,” he added requesting anonymity.
