A truck hit passers-by in a central Stockholm street, crashing near a department store, at the crossroads of the busiest shopping street in the Swedish capital.

There are at least two confirmed dead, police said, which according to a report in the local newspaper “Aftonbladet” has cordoned off the area. Ordered also the evacuation of the central station and stopped the subway, while other sources report five dead.

The first images that come from Stockholm show dozens of people fleeing in panic, in a situation right now recalling the terrorist attacks that followed one each other in the recent months.

Not confirmed at the time the news of gunfire exploded in the center, while witnesses speak of a man on the ground, surrounded by police, not far from the department store. The prime minister confirmed that a suspect was held, but the police have also said that nobody has been arrested.

The truck used distributed beer on behalf of “Spendrups” society. The vehicle was hijacked or stolen while it was about to make a delivery to a restaurant. The company has confirmed that the driver is fine.

The Swedish prime minister, Stefan Löfven, has already spoken to the press, saying that “everything indicates that it is a jihadist terror attack.”
