Turkey, fatwa reassures the faithful: “The toilet paper can be used”

The answer to the question of a faithful. “Flowing water is always better but in the absence of that, the toilet paper is acceptable.”

It is a fatwa meant to mark the history that of the turkish “Diyanet” (the Directorate for Religious Affairs) that has ruled it is permissible for Muslims to use the toilet paper in bathroom, making it clear however that it would be better cleanse self with flowing water, if possible.

“Although some sources find that the paper is not a suitable material to cleanse self – says a note from the Diyanet – because it also serves to write, there is no problem in the use of toilet paper.”

Already in recent months a fatwa had dealt with important issues related to cleaning, making it clear that for housekeeping it is not forbidden to use cleaners containing alcohol, even if it is banned by Islam in general.

The Diyanet had explained, for those who had doubts, that however it is not allowed to drink alcoholic products conceived for cleaning, such as methylated spirit or sprayers for glass. And if they end up on the clothes or on the skin of who is cleaning the house, it is better to change clothes before praying.
