Russia says NATO’s new European anti-missile defence system is a threat to its security.
It was meant to act as a deterrent but instead, a new NATO missile defence shield is stirring up tensions that have not been seen since the end of the Cold War.
US President Barack Obama has expressed concern about what he calls Russia’s “growing aggressive” military presence. And Russian President Vladimir Putin says NATO’s missile defence system is not protecting Europe, it is threatening its peace.
Poland broke ground on the northern wing of the NATO shield on Friday 13/5, a day after the defence system’s first base was activated in Romania.
NATO says the sites will help protect the US and Europe from what it calls “rogue states” in the Middle East. But Russia insists the project is a threat to its security.
And what to say about: Ukraina civil war, Crimea independence, embargo to Russia, creation of the “euro-asiatic project” with the Russian-Chinese alliance, Russian operations in Syria, attack over Russian aircraft close the Turkey border, crisis in the Chinese South Sea (Spratly artificial islands issue), Moldova crisis (US and NATO troops in the capital Chisinau), “provocation” in the Baltic (Russian planes flying near American vessel), turmoil in Armenia between Armenians and Azeris supported by Turkey, the “provocation” of creating a new “Silk Road” railway by Russian and Chinese project, the opening of the Chinese army base in Djibouti, and so on….
Actually everything points to a new beginning of a “Cold War”, perhaps far more serious than the one already seen.
