Police detain four suspects over Italian national Cesare Tavella’s murder

Police on Monday October 26th claimed a major step forward over the September 28th murder of Italian aid worker Cesare Tavella, saying they have detained four of those involved in the killing.

Suspects have been detained over the murder, including three ‘who were directly involved in the killing’. Police have managed to track down the motorcycle used by assailants to escape from the spot after Tavella’s murder at the capital’s diplomatic zone Gulshan. “The motorbike has already been confiscated.”

The four detained are Minhajul Abedin Russel (“Vagne Rusel”), Tamjid Ahmed Rubel (“hooter Rubel”), Russel Chowdhury (“Chakti Russel”) and Shakhawat Hossain (“Sharif”).

They were nabbed from different parts of Dhaka on Sunday October 25th.

Monitoring group “SITE” had said that the Middle Eastern radical group ISIS have claimed responsibility for Tavella’s murder—and of Japanese national Kunio Hoshi as well. But Bangladesh government, and evidences, seem to show that the claim is baseless and said there is no visible presence of Islamic State in the country.

Just for the record, Kunio Hoshi was a 66-years-old Japanese national converted to Islam and living in Bangladesh as a farmer. He was gunned down nearby Rangpur five days after the murder of Tavella. In a similar way, four potential suspects have been arrested by police recently.
